The newly formed Baseball5 U17 National Team traveled to Sofia, Bulgaria in November to compete in the first Baseball5 U17 European Championship.
In the premiere of the games, Greece faced one of the favorites of the tournament, Lithuania. The experienced Lithuanians were very strong winning 15-4.
In the second game of the day, Greece faced the Dutch National Team. In a very close match, the Dutch came away with the victory with a score of 6-5.
The team bounced back in the third game of the day to beat powerhouse Germany 2-1.
The second day of matches started with a defeat by Italy and an impressive 6-0 win against Israel.
Needing a win in the third game of the day against Romania to advance to the top 8, Greece fought an epic match where they lost on aggregate with a score of 1-0, now claiming positions 9 to 14.
In the qualifying matches playing best of 3 matches, Greece faced Moldova first coming away with 2 impressive wins 3-0 and 8-1 respectively, advancing to the next series of matches against the hosts Bulgaria.
The Greek team was very strong against the Bulgarians, winning 7-1 in the 1st match and 3-1 in the 2nd.
Our National Team had secured 10th place in the tournament and would face Germany again for 9th place. Germany took the 1st match with a score of 1-0 and Greece recovered in the 2nd to win 3-2. In the decisive match 3, Germany managed to walk away with a 5-3 victory.
With a tally of 7 wins and 6 losses, Greece finished 10th in Europe. Efthymis Andritsopoulos was named MVP of our National Team in the event.
